Quiet fans still need to move air. This note starts with the top 10 recommendations, then uses noise-normalized measurements to show how much airflow and static pressure remain at quiet settings. It ends by bringing radiators, filters, delivered prices in Japan, thickness, controllers, and warranties into one buying guide.   2. Performance at quiet settings: Airflow and static pressure at 20/25 dBA, followed by obstructed-airflow tests with radiators or filters.
  3. Availability and price in Japan: Tax-inclusive in-stock prices, scheduled launches, or discontinued sales; unavailable models rank lower.
  4. Installation and usage requirements: Thickness, proprietary controllers, and warranty service contacts in Japan.

This is an editorial judgment, not a total score obtained by multiplying CFM, mmH₂O, and dBA. Adjacent models often differ by less than the measurement uncertainty. First narrow the field with the scenario table, then return here to compare.

    At the same 25 dBA, its shut-off static pressure of 2.72 mmH₂O is 1.68 times G2’s, while airflow is 84% of G2’s. In HWCooling’s noise-normalized thin-radiator tests it leads airflow at 31 and 36 dBA, trading wins with T30-140; Tweakers points in the same direction. The delivered price per fan is about one-third of G2’s, making it especially cost-effective in multi-fan setups.
    Watch out for
    At 27 mm thick, measure the available space before installation. At an extremely quiet 20 dBA, its free airflow ranks in the lower middle of Tweakers’ results; static pressure is its strength. It was louder on HWCooling’s test grille. Cybenetics measured about 0.40 A under shut-off conditions, above the official 0.35 A; leave power headroom when daisy-chaining multiple fans.

    Best for: Resistive locations such as filters, radiators, and external fan boxes; multiple fans on a limited budget.

    It leads free airflow at both 20 and 25 dBA on two platforms. Standard 25 mm thickness; 300 rpm at 20% PWM and stops at 0%, giving a broad low-speed adjustment range. HWCooling finds it generally excels at low resistance and performs very well with a nylon filter.
    Watch out for
    It costs about 3 times as much as P14 Pro PST. Shut-off static pressure is not its strength: HWCooling measured about 1–15% less noise-normalized thin-radiator airflow than T30, the P14 Pro series, and TOUGHFAN, with the gap widening at quieter settings. Japanese distributor-channel warranty is 2 years (manufacturer states 6 years); confirm the service route for years 3–6 separately. HWCooling’s plastic filter did not suit it, and some speeds may still produce tones or frame vibration.

    Watch out for
    HWCooling found sample variation: most were very quiet, but some clicked noticeably in certain orientations. Listen at low speed in the intended orientation after delivery. Tweakers measured relatively low shut-off static pressure; there is no Cybenetics data. Do not confuse it with EX14 Pro, which has interchangeable blades.

    Best for: Radiators with room for only 25 mm, with a budget between P14 Pro and G2.

Its lead over P14 Pro and TOUGHFAN is only a few percentage points; at 31 and 33 dBA it moves about 15% more air than G2. Three official modes (Advanced/Performance/Hybrid), with a 6-year warranty.
    Watch out for
    30 mm thick, drawing up to 0.56 A per fan. The test grille produced a 360 Hz tone around 700 rpm, with more pronounced vibration above roughly 1100 rpm. No noise-normalized figures from Cybenetics or Tweakers. Major Japanese retailers do not list it; third-party sellers charge about six times P14 Pro PST’s price, and warranty service is unclear.

    Best for: Enough space, radiator or filter performance as the priority, and willingness to source it yourself.

  • ARCTIC P14 Max: Cybenetics 25 dBA gives 63.91 CFM/1.70 mmH₂O, and Tweakers 25 dBA airflow is 78.57 m³/h—respectable figures, but the Japanese distributor lists it as discontinued. Keep using one you already own; for a new purchase, look for P14 Pro first.[S04 S09 S76]
  • ARCTIC P14 Pro PST CO: Dual ball bearings, marketed for continuous operation. Tweakers measured 51.17 m³/h at 20 dBA, below the standard FDB version’s 57.87. The CO name earns no extra credit when quietness is the priority.[S10 S54]
  • Noctua NF-A14x25 G2 LS-PWM: Up to 800 rpm, manufacturer-rated 11.4 dBA. Maximum airflow is only 48.03 CFM, suited to near-silent, low-load locations.[S53]
  • Noctua NF-A14x25r G2 (round frame): Cybenetics 25 dBA gives 74.35 CFM/1.64 mmH₂O, slightly above the square-frame version, but its 138 mm round frame and 105 mm mounting-hole spacing cannot seal a square radiator mount.[S92 S85]
  • Sudokoo MACH140: In stock in Japan at ¥5,080, with manufacturer-rated static pressure of 5.91 mmH₂O. Without noise-normalized loaded measurements, the specifications cannot establish it as the quietest option.[S58 S70]
  • be quiet! Silent Wings 4 140 HS: Mid-pack at 25 dBA in Tweakers, but only 47.86 CFM/0.89 mmH₂O at 25 dBA in Cybenetics; the two platforms disagree.[S09 S89]

Understand the metrics before choosing

  1. Intake grille/filterUses up some pressure first; too close to the blades, it also increases noise.
  2. FanProvides airflow and pressure differential at a given speed according to its P–Q curve.

Conversions: 1 CFM = 1.69901 m³/h; 1 mmH₂O = 9.80665 Pa. Manufacturer airflow, static pressure, and noise are usually measured under different conditions. Do not turn CFM × mmH₂O ÷ dBA into a total score: dBA is logarithmic, and the two aerodynamic maxima do not occur simultaneously.

The resistance of a case, radiator, and filter can be plotted as a system curve. Its intersection with the fan’s P–Q curve is the actual operating point (see P–Q and operating points). This note therefore prioritizes same-platform measurements; manufacturer specifications serve only to check limits, dimensions, and electrical compatibility.[S95 S08]

At the same 25 dBA: the key figures that can truly be compared side by side

Cybenetics first finds the speed that produces 25 dBA in a semi-anechoic chamber (about 6 dBA background noise, microphone at a perpendicular distance of 1 m and 30–45° to the horizontal axis), then measures airflow and shut-off static pressure in the same Long Win LW-9266 wind tunnel. This measures aerodynamic capability at equal noise, not “still 25 dBA with a radiator installed,” and these are not measurements performed by this site.[S08]

The original report included only 7 models. This site rechecked the same laboratory’s data and added reports for UNI FAN TL 140, MEGACOOL, P14 PWM PST, and Silent Wings 4 140 HS, bringing the total to 11.[S87 S88 S89 S90 S44]

Large gaps may justify spending more or choosing another model

G2’s free airflow is 19.0% higher than P14 Pro PST’s; P14 Pro PST’s shut-off static pressure is 67.9% higher than G2’s. Compared with P14 Max, P14 Pro PST has 3.6% less airflow but 60.0% more static pressure.

Small gaps should not be forced into winners and losers

BioniX and P14 Pro A-RGB differ by only 2.02 CFM/0.05 mmH₂O. Expanded uncertainty in this airflow range is about ±4 CFM and about ±0.069 mmH₂O for static pressure. Treat these models as the same class, then consider price, thickness, and control method.

Limitations of the added data

The Cybenetics report for P14 PWM PST lists manufacturer information as a Rifle bearing and 140 × 140 × 30 mm, differing from ARCTIC’s current official FDB and 27 mm specifications. This may reflect an earlier revision or a registration discrepancy and is for reference only. The 20 dBA fields appear only in the official database; individual report pages list only 25 dBA. The round-frame NF-A14x25r G2 records 74.35 CFM/1.64 mmH₂O in that database, but its 105 mm mounting-hole spacing prevents substitution for the square-frame version.[S88 S87 S92]

High-output fans can be very quiet at low speed, but full speed still carries a noise cost. Maximum static pressure sometimes occurs at 90% rather than 100%, so these extrema are not treated as one full-speed condition. Maximum speed comes from Section D and differs from measured loaded speeds in the P–Q sweep. The chart’s range lines are expanded uncertainty (k=2) calculated using the source formula; they do not represent retail sample variation or failure rates. Another measurement system supports the main trend, but absolute values must not be mixed

Tweakers measures noise 50 cm from the intake side (about 12 dBA room background, consistent measurement floor of 14 dBA). It measures airflow with an open 1.5 m-long, 15 cm-inner-diameter duct and static pressure with the duct closed. Its method differs from Cybenetics, so this table compares only within the same platform and cross-checks a quieter 20 dBA setting. P14 Pro/CO come from a later article on the same platform. Silent Wings Pro 4 is in Medium mode here, not the UHS mode in the previous section.[S11 S09 S10]

  • At 20 dBA, RS140 MAX’s 73.24 m³/h approaches G2’s 74.87. P14 Pro’s airflow falls to the lower middle, while static pressure remains first. Check this column for extremely quiet settings.
  • P14 Pro PST CO (dual ball bearing) does not excel at low-noise test points. Choose the standard FDB version first if quietness is the priority.
  • An example of disagreement: Silent Wings 4 140 HS is mid-pack at 25 dBA in Tweakers, but lowest among 11 models at 25 dBA in Cybenetics (47.86 CFM/0.89 mmH₂O). With conflicting conclusions, this note excludes it from the top 10.

For the same G2, the manufacturer specifies maximum noise of 24.8 dBA, Cybenetics measures a maximum of 32.4 dBA, and Tweakers measures 43.1 dBA at full speed. Environments, distances, angles, and methods differ. Subtracting these values cannot establish inflated specifications, and manufacturer dBA figures from different brands are not a fair comparison.[S18 S01 S09]

Who has stronger evidence with a real filter or radiator installed?

HWCooling tests with nylon filters, plastic filters, grilles, and thin/thick radiators, retuning to the target noise level for each obstacle. Its 31–45 dBA scale is a dedicated reference using a 15 cm distance and a parabolic sensitivity-enhancing reflector; it is not desk-distance noise.[S73 S74]

At single-fan prices, P14 Pro PST offers about 2.5 times G2’s free airflow per purchase cost. But if one mounting position must move more air at fixed noise, G2’s airflow headroom still has value. With enough space, more inexpensive fans can increase cross-sectional area, but total noise, actual resistance, and power must be reassessed. You cannot simply add single-fan airflow figures at 25 dBA and claim the result is equally quiet.

  1. Eliminate options that will not fit, connect, or can’t be bought: Frame thickness, mounting-hole spacing, controllers, and authorized supply are hard requirements.

Why high static pressure does not guarantee radiator performance: a real P–Q curve

Take the original P14 Pro PST sweep at 50% PWM (about 1355–1356 rpm): it establishes 2.30 mmH₂O at shut-off and about 55.97 CFM at the open end. The middle is the region where it may operate once an airflow path is installed. This is not 25 dBA data.[S06]

For the same fan under approximately similar conditions, airflow is roughly proportional to speed n and pressure to n². Halving speed leaves only about one-quarter of the pressure capability, so even high-pressure fans have limits at low speed.[S72]

Applying this to a fan box: address resonance through both airflow path and mounting

Resonance is common in DIY and external fan boxes. If the enclosure accepts 27 mm fans, two P14 Pro PST fans with independent speed control and secure mounting are the lowest-cost starting point. If refined low-speed operation and consistent accessories matter more, G2’s Sx2-PP twin pack is attractive. This is advice for common scenarios, not measurements of a particular enclosure.

Troubleshooting procedure; sound descriptions alone cannot diagnose hardware

In Noctua’s manufacturer tests of intake spacers (NA-IS1), five 120/140 mm fans on a round-hole perforated plate became 1.2–3.5 dB(A) quieter and gained 1.6–8.3 m³/h of airflow. On radiators, however, the tested 140 mm fans averaged about 0.4 dB(A) louder with spacers. This supports adjusting intake clearance, but the effect depends on the obstacle type.[S78]

Two 25 dBA fans do not remain at 25 dBA

For approximately uncorrelated sound sources measured at the same position: Ltotal = 10 log₁₀ Σ 10Li/10. Two sources at 25 dBA each total about 28.0 dBA; four total about 31.0 dBA. For two fans to total 25 dBA, each must be reduced to about 22 dBA, and airflow must be checked again.

Beating and enclosure resonance are different phenomena

Blade-passing frequency f = blade count × rpm ÷ 60. With 9 blades, a 50 rpm speed difference gives a 7.5 Hz difference frequency. G2 Sx2-PP’s paired design of about −25/+25 rpm can reduce periodic humming, but this does not establish that enclosure resonance has been fixed.[S79 S80]

A complete selection example: 200 W of heat, allowing a 5 °C air temperature rise

An ideal heat-balance estimate, not a whole-system temperature prediction. Assume all 200 W enters the exhaust air, air density ρ = 1.2 kg/m³, and specific heat cp = 1005 J/(kg·K), then Q = thermal power ÷ (ρ cp ΔT) ≈ 0.0332 m³/s = 119.4 m³/h = 70.3 CFM. This is the flow required after installation in the enclosure, not the free-airflow number on the box. Next estimate system resistance, use the operating point to decide on one or multiple fans, and finally verify hot-spot temperatures and total noise.

This example ignores leakage, recirculation, heat-transfer paths, and environmental changes. Intake-to-exhaust air temperature rise is not the CPU/GPU core-to-ambient temperature difference. If a filter element or long duct has high resistance, inspect its pressure-loss curve before considering a different type of blower.

Installation, control, and warranty: conditions that change the final choice

Confirm three things before ordering

Frame thickness (27–30 mm models may interfere with radiators or the case roof), hole spacing (round G2r uses 105 mm), and control method (UNI FAN TL 140 cannot run without a compatible controller, absent from the single pack). If these three do not fit, even excellent noise-normalized figures are unusable.

Compatibility and power limitations

Choose a powered hub based on controller-port limits, power supply, and startup headroom.
Thick-frame, high-output current T30 officially draws 0.56 A each; 3 fans nominally total 1.68 A.[S16] Premium fans may also need extra power; do not simply connect three PWM cables to one supply path.
Separate LEDs from the motor ARGB commonly uses 5 V, motors 12 V; AL and TL Input Power may not be motor-only power. Compare total watts using clearly separated fields; connectors must not be mixed either.

This note lacks long-term data sufficient to compare failure rates across multiple retail batches. It therefore makes no claims such as “brand X has an X% failure rate” or “six years must be more durable than five.” FDB, SSO2, VAPO, and LCP describe structures and materials; lifespan also depends on temperature, lubrication, orientation, speed, production batch, and operating environment. Ticking or PWM whine encountered in reviews is only a clue for arrival inspection.

Still missing or insufficient

  • No pressure-loss curve, structural modes, airflow, noise spectrum, or hot-spot measurements for a particular fan box; replacing one model cannot be guaranteed to eliminate resonance completely.
  • Cybenetics’ 20 dBA figures appear only in the official database; report pages list 25 dBA only. No reliably extractable 30/35 dBA figures were obtained, and PWM percentages were not interpolated into noise-normalized data.
  • TOUGHFAN 14 Pro, T30-140, and AL140 V2 are not in the Cybenetics database. Their ranks rely on Tweakers or HWCooling, with evidence strength different from the top three.
  • No long-term reliability statistics from enough retail samples. Small performance differences or one clicking incident are not treated as a reliability ranking of an entire series.
  • Some RS140 II dimension and speed fields disagree between the official series introduction and product page. The table uses the more complete series overview (26 mm, 330–1700 rpm), retaining a note.
  • The original BioniX report’s date fields contradict each other. Its 25 dBA data is retained; the test year is not silently corrected.
  • Cybenetics revised rating thresholds in 2026-10, rerating existing fans using old measurements. This note uses numbers, not badges from different years, for ranking.

After organizing the original report, this site reread the sources on the same day, checked figures, units, dates, and models individually, and recalculated all percentages, conversions, and price arithmetic.

  • Cybenetics: the original report’s 7 models matched the report pages item by item for 25 dBA airflow/static pressure, Section D extrema, test/publication dates, and each model’s 50%/100% PWM sweep points. The uncertainty formulas, semi-anechoic chamber conditions, and PHI 2.1 (2026-10) explanation of rerating without retesting also matched. BioniX’s date-field contradiction was confirmed.[S01 S03 S08]
  • Tweakers: all 40 airflow/static-pressure values for 10 models at 20/25 dBA, two percentages, and the method description matched (automated access was blocked, so archived webpage copies were used).[S09 S10 S11]
  • HWCooling: conclusions, dates, and methods for T30-140, G2, P14 Pro PST, BioniX, and TOUGHFAN 14 Pro were found in the original articles. Noise-normalized thin-radiator airflow was also read from the T30 review’s chart page.[S12 S13 S14 S15 S96 S97]
  • Manufacturer specifications: SKU, thickness, speed, maximum airflow, static pressure, noise, current/power, bearing, warranty, and connections for 27 models were checked against official sites and specification PDFs, with all main values matching. Corrections and additions to the original report

  • Added 4 same-platform Cybenetics records omitted from the original report: UNI FAN TL 140 (25 dBA 70.70 CFM/1.25 mmH₂O), MEGACOOL (56.92/0.60), P14 PWM PST (55.19/1.29), and Silent Wings 4 140 HS (47.86/0.89), plus database 20 dBA values for 11 models. TL 140 consequently entered the top 10.[S87 S88 S89 S90 S44]
  • Added HWCooling’s noise-normalized thin-radiator airflow table and corrected two statements: T30-140 leads G2 by about 15% at 31 and 33 dBA, not always single digits. Thick radiators have lower airflow in HWCooling’s data, so “thicker does not mean higher resistance” cannot be stated.[S96 S74]
  • Replaced P14 Pro PST’s “current at maximum-pressure conditions” with two verifiable statements: HWCooling measured maximum static pressure about 10.8% above specification; Cybenetics measured about 0.40 A under shut-off conditions.[S14 S06]
